How to play chess: how every piece moves, check and mate, castling, en passant, promotion, the draws, the chess clock and how to read the notation.
Chess rules — how to play chess →Every rule is in: castling, en passant, promotion to any piece, and the draws — stalemate, threefold repetition, fifty moves and positions nobody can win. Play the computer at once, or send a friend a link and play on a chess clock.
Every game is played on a chess clock with two parts. Each player has a bank of time for the whole game, and every move comes with a few seconds of its own that are spent first — the bank only starts to run once they are gone, and what is left of them is not saved up. Quick, obvious moves cost you nothing.
Run your bank down to zero and you lose on time — unless your opponent has nothing left but a king, which could never mate you: then it is a draw. Against the computer, the clock stops while you are in another tab.
