Privacy and contact
openseat.games is a site for classic games in the browser. There are no accounts and no sign-up, and the site does not want to know who you are. This page says what it does keep, and where.
What stays in your browser
To make the games work, the site keeps a few things in your browser's own storage (localStorage). They are never sent anywhere as a list:
- A random player id and the name you type at a table. The id is how a table seats you again after a reload or a dropped connection. It is made up on the spot and has nothing to do with you.
- Games in progress and best scores, so a sudoku, a solitaire or a 2048 game is still there when you come back.
- The games you have played lately, shown in the search as You played.
- Small settings, such as a hint you have closed or a chat player you have chosen to hide.
You can delete all of it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser's settings. The games keep working without it; you just lose your place.
What reaches the server
- Games against the computer are played entirely in your browser. No move is sent anywhere.
- At a table with a friend, the moves, the names you choose and the table's chat go through the game server so the other players can see them. They are kept only in the server's memory, for as long as the table exists, and disappear when it closes.
- While a game is open, your browser tells the server every half minute which game is being played, so the site can count how many people are playing what. What is written down is the game, the time, the country (a guess from Cloudflare) and a scrambled form of the player id that cannot be turned back into it. Your IP address is not stored. These figures are seen only by the site's operator.
Cookies
The site sets one technical cookie, openseat-region, which holds only
whether your country requires consent for advertising. It does not identify
you. There is no analytics, no advertising and no third-party tracking on the
site today. If that changes, this page will say so first, and where the law
requires it, you will be asked before anything of the kind loads.
Cloudflare
The site is served through Cloudflare, which handles every request on its way to the server, as a network provider does. Cloudflare's own handling of that traffic is described in its privacy policy.
Children
The games are for everyone, and nothing on the site asks for personal information, so there is nothing a child could give away by playing.
