Sea battle with three weapons: torpedoes, air strikes and a radar sweep. Hit with any of them and you go again.

Open the field, count the mines round every number, flag the rest. On your own, or racing a friend across the same field.

Slide the tiles, merge equal numbers, and build up to 2048 — or play endless, for the score alone. Alone, or race up to three friends to a tile, against the clock, or endless.

Ten ships hidden on a ten-by-ten grid. Find them before they find you.

The whole game on a board you could have drawn yourself, on a proper chess clock: against the computer at three strengths, or against a friend on a link.

Draughts on an 8×8 board, by the rules you grew up with — with flying kings, or American checkers.

Noughts and crosses: three in a row on the classic 3×3, four on 4×4, or five in a row across a 15×15 page.

Numbers round the edges say how many cells in each row and column are shaded. Work them out and a picture appears. Alone, or racing a friend.

Fill the grid so every row, column and box holds 1 to 9 once. Four levels, every puzzle solvable by logic. Alone, or racing a friend.

Klondike patience with every deal winnable. Draw one or three, undo as you like, or race a friend on the same deal.

Build runs of one suit from king to ace across ten columns. One, two or four suits, every deal winnable, or race a friend on the same deal.

Every card face up, four free cells, and Microsoft’s numbered deals from 1 to a million. Undo as you like, or race friends on the same deal.

Beat the dealer to 21 without going over: on your own, or with up to three friends at one table.

Buy the streets you land on, charge rent to whoever lands on yours, build houses and hotels, and trade your way to a whole colour group. Last one solvent wins.
